SHK Music Presents: The Incredible Casuals (aka the Invincible Casuals) w/ The Buttercups at Boston Harbor Distillery
The Incredible Casuals (aka the Invincible Casuals), a Cape Cod-based rock band, was formed in 1980 by bassist Chandler Travis, guitarist Steve Shook, and drummer Rikki Bates. Known for their mix of humor, energetic live performances, and a sound often described as "The Beach Boys meets The Who," they quickly built a loyal following in the Boston area. The band's origins trace back to a comedy-music duo, Travis Shook and the Club Wow, who toured with George Carlin before evolving into the Casuals.
The group’s debut album, "That's That", was released in 1984, followed by "Your Sounds" in 1991, "It Is Balloon" in 1996, and "Nature Calls" in 2006. The core lineup featured Chandler Travis, Johnny Spampinato (who also played with NRBQ), Aaron Spade on guitar, and Rikki Bates on drums, and they became a fixture at the Wellfleet Beachcomber, playing every Sunday afternoon for over three decades.
The Casuals went on hiatus from 2015 - 2023, and Aaron Spade died in 2023, but the band came roaring back as a trio in 2024 with longtime singer-guitarist Steve "Woo Woo" Wood, well known for his work with the Freeze, Greenheads, and Catbirds, and for being the hardest rocking guitar slinger on the cape of cod, allowing the band to reclaim their reputation for infectious live shows and raucous pop energy.
