Ian Campbell, Old Tom & The Lookouts
Ian Campbell is a storyteller and in both his solo and full band shows, he blends captivating storytelling with dynamic and lively performances.
As a solo artist, Ian’s performances are truly engaging as he dives into the stories behind his songs and the experiences that shaped them. Whether he's live looping and putting all his energy onto the stage, or focusing more on an intimate "storyteller" performance, his solo shows offer a personal and deep connection with his audiences.
In contrast, Ian’s full band shows bring a vibrant and spirited energy to the stage. With Ian on lead vocals and guitar and accompanied by bass, drums, and keys, these performances can typically by a "dancing barefoot in the grass" kind of vibe. Occasionally enhanced with additional players, these shows are always an experience.
Ian’s debut album, Stories from an Old Set of Strings, released in August 2023, is a raw and acoustic introduction to his music, showcasing his vocals and guitar in their most stripped-down form. Looking ahead, Ian is set to release his second album, My Own Way, in January 2025. This new project marks a transition towards a full band sound with a roots rock influence.

Led by Alex Calabrese, Boston-based indie-folk band Old Tom & The Lookouts blend the introspective grit of Americana with the emotional rawness of indie rock. Known for their brooding lyrics and powerful storytelling, the band explores themes of mental health, love, and resilience.
Drawing influences from artists like Tom Waits, Frightened Rabbit, and Phoebe Bridgers, Calabrese’s evocative vocals and poignant songwriting strike a chord with listeners searching for authenticity and emotional depth.
Old Tom & The Lookouts have performed at notable venues such as Club Passim (Cambridge, MA), City Winery (Philadelphia, PA), and Skylark Lounge (Denver, CO). Their previous release, Just For Beasts (2021), co-created with violinist and vocalist Cecilia Vacanti, was praised by critics as “hauntingly beautiful” by Lunar Sonar and “essential listening” by Music Mecca. With Northeastern (2024), the band takes a bold step forward, embracing a more rock-driven sound while staying true to their emotionally charged roots.
