FauxMenco - Hailing from Boston, MA, the guitar duo FauxMenco is the creative partnership of Catherine Capozzi and Rafi Sofer. Both accomplished musicians with roots in loud and experimental electric guitar music, Catherine and Rafi now explore new sonic territories with nylon string guitars. Their diverse influences span rock, metal, classical, flamenco, surf, manouche, and the ambience of time and space, resulting in instrumental compositions that are both intricate and evocative – exciting guitar dreamscapes that are propulsive and timeless. Their highly anticipated debut EP release, "Speed X Volume = FauxMenco," embodies their unique approach, a "relaxed mayhem" inspired by the contrasting yet complementary legacies of Paco De Lucia and Jimi Hendrix.

Catherine Capozzi, a genre-bending and award-winning film composer and producer, was notably selected by Brian May to win his famed "Red Special" electric guitar. Israeli-born Rafi Sofer is a sound and visual artist, serving as head engineer at Boston’s legendary Q Division Studios while also pursuing his passions for street and macro photography. Catherine and Rafi met while playing in loud prog rock instrumental bands; Catherine's Axemunkee, a high-energy quartet with two drummers, offered an unusual voice in guitar rock, while Rafi's Invisible Rays created immersive otherworldly experiences with their instrumental punk-infused rock and analog liquid slide projections.

As FauxMenco, Catherine and Rafi delve into the instrumental guitar worlds opened up by masters like Django Reinhardt, Paco de Lucia, Gary Lucas, and John Fahey. Their music features instrumental and melodic compositions, hinting at virtuosic musicianship while maintaining a foundation of compelling and often danceable rhythms. "Speed X Volume = FauxMenco" marks their exciting first official release.

Catherine Bent - English-born cellist Catherine Bent, an alumna of Cirque du Soleil, has performed and recorded in diverse genres with artists including Joe Jackson, Lee Konitz, Enya, Donna Summer, and A. R. Rahman. Her love of Brazilian music—especially choro and forró—draws her continually to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and the northeast of Brazil. A professor at Berklee, Catherine founded the Berklee Clube de Choro, and organizes roda de choro sessions to bring the conviviality of Rio nights to New England. www.youtube.com/CatherineBent

Multi-instrumentalist and educator Rob Flax describes his music concisely: “I play things with strings, I hit stuff, and I sing.” Behind this simple tag line lies a rich depth of genre-bending, from classical and jazz violin to bluegrass fiddle, to blues and rock influences, and beyond. Rob performs his original music solo (with looper pedal) and with his Boom Chick Trio, and he plays as sideman and session musician in many other projects. Rob is also the inventor of the Chessboard Drum Machine. www.robflax.com
