The Mangled Badgers, Michael Barry, Highway Hosiery Upstairs at McCarthy's

The Mangled Badgers, Michael Barry, Highway Hosiery Upstairs at McCarthy's

The Mangled Badgers - The evening kicks off with The Mangled Badgers, a brand-new trio bringing high-energy traditional Irish music to life. This lively group is what happens when a Tyrone concertina player, a Hyannis guitarist, and a Galway fiddler decide to stir up some musical fun.

James McKenna (County Tyrone) – concertina

Jimmy Kelly (Hyannis, MA) – guitar & vocals

Harry Giles (Galway) – fiddle

With deep roots and family trees full of well-known musicians, the Mangled Badgers weave together heartfelt melodies, driving rhythms, and a few mischievous surprises along the way. No badgers will be harmed during the performance — though one may show up uninvited.

Highway Hosiery
is the duo project of Elizabeth Steen (accordion, keys) and Jude Heichelbech (cello, stompbox). Steen is a seasoned accordionist/keyboardist who has played and toured along Natalie Merchant, Tanya Donelly, and Billy Bragg among others, and Heichelbech is a mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist and visual artist. Together, they pen catchy tunes about trial, love and other oddities that span pop, jazz, rock and roots, with a slant born out of their deep Pennsyltucky upbringings. Both are the daughters of English professors and musicians and have occupied the same seat at the keyboards for Count Zero. They are at work on an album to be released later this year.

$15 in advance. $20 at the door.
