SHK Music Presents: The Dogmatics and The Gypsy Moths at Boston Harbor Distillery

On Saturday, May 16, the Boston Harbor Distillery welcomes back one of the city’s most legendary rock ’n’ roll bands—The Dogmatics. Formed in 1981, The Dogmatics burst onto the Boston scene with their raw, high-energy mix of garage rock, punk, and rockabilly, releasing two acclaimed albums on Homestead Records and sharing stages with The Replacements, The Bangles, and the Fleshtones. Though tragedy struck in 1986 with the loss of bassist Paul O’Halloran, the band’s music has endured, inspiring generations of Boston rock fans. Reuniting in recent years, they’ve released new music through Rum Bar Records, including their 2025 full-length Nowheresville—their first in nearly 40 years—and remain one of Boston’s most vital and beloved acts.

The Gypsy Moths are a five-piece band, formed in 2014 and based in Boston. They first met as teenage rock obsessives, roaming the halls of North Quincy High School in the 1980’s, and recently released their fourth album, ‘Here We Are’, a 25-song double LP, on Boston’s internationally renowned label Rum Bar Records. Several tracks have been added to rotation on Sirius XM’s “Underground Garage” and “Coolest Songs In The World” channels. Some press notes on the album:
“This two-album set is a tour de force in maximum impact—not with volume or intensity, but the genius of the compositions, redolent of the British Invasion, XTC, Squeeze, Brian Wilson circa Sunflower, Cowsills, Dylan; a thousand bands but their own sound. May be record of the year.” (Remember The Lightning)
"They decided to form a band that sounded like their record collections, which are full of soul, psychedelic, power-pop, and Boston garage rock. The band has released a string of truly impressive records leading up to “Here We Are,” a 25-track double LP…the songs are as meaningful as they are catchy”. (WBUR)
"The Gypsy Moths musical style is grounded in 1960s garage rockers like The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and the power pop of bands like Squeeze and Sloan”. (The Patriot Ledger)
