Sophie Wellington, musician and percussive dancer, is joined by fellow Boston area musicians Max Newman, Zach Meyer, Bill Wellington, and Alex Scala, and several surprise guests! Will Mentor will be calling the square dance. These folks have all been active in facilitating Boston-area traditional music for many years. Sophie and her father Bill are both active members of the greater old time music and contra dance scene, Bill for over 40 years; Max Newman tours and performs for contra dances extensively; Zach Meyer has facilitated the weekly old time jam at The Bebop since 2019 and now books Tuesdays at TOAD in Porter Square; Alex Scala has been playing old time music for going on 40 years, an active member in many communities and a core member of the Bebop Old Time Jam; lastly, and perhaps most crucial, Will Mentor is a renowned contra dance and square dance caller with unmatched expertise and zest for this special, community art: social dance!!
