Brian O’Donovan Legacy Series: Rockaway Bound

Rockaway Bound is a new project led by award-winning Irish accordion player Diarmuid Ó Meachair, inspired by the vibrant Irish music scene that flourished on New York’s Rockaway Peninsula during the 1920s and 1930s. Legendary musicians including the McNulty Family, Peter Conlon, Michael Coleman, Paddy Killoran and John McKenna performed in Rockaway during the summer months, helping shape the distinctive sound of Irish music in America’s golden gramophone era. Rockaway Bound aims to capture the spirit, energy and creativity of this period while bringing its legacy into the present day. The band’s first run of shows will take place in January 2027, Diarmuid will be joined by some of the most exciting young musicians in Irish traditional music: Seamus Noonan (flute), Andrew Caden (fiddle), Colman Connolly (piano) and Richard Osban (Greek bouzouki).
