Poetry and Music with Duy Doan, Skylar Kergil, and Poor Eliza
Duy Doan
Vietnamese American poet born in Texas. He is the author of the forthcoming collection We Play a Game, winner of the 2017 Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize. A Kundiman fellow, he received an MFA in poetry from Boston University, where he serves as director of the Favorite Poem Project. Duy loves cats, soccer, and dance.
Skylar Kergil is a transgender singer-songwriter and poet who shares his stories through simple progressions and complicated lyrics. According to Billboard, he is one of eleven transgender and non-binary musicians to keep an eye on, writing that his music has a folk sound that sends a statement. He is a Boston native, often found nearby cats or listening to the lives of queer youth.
Boston-based, Korean-American songwriter Poor Eliza engages audiences with her intimate, vocal vibrato, dynamic songwriting, and full band. Inspired by the haunting melodies of songwriters like Damien Rice and Kathleen Edwards, she uses her lyrics to challenge her sense of self, how she is perceived, and the disappointments surrounding identity. She is currently working on her second album and her first set of tours, which are planned for February, April, and June of 2018

Skylar Kergil is a transgender singer-songwriter, activist, educator, writer and artist who is from Acton, MA but currently resides in Boston. After high school, he attended Skidmore College, serving on the board of the Pride Alliance, as a Peer Mentor, and an active member of the community until graduating on May 18, 2013 with honors and leadership awards. While he majored in Studio Art with a concentration in drawing and photography, he pursued a wide range of classes and interests in gender studies, environmental studies, philosophy, poetry and biology. As of now, he is traveling to educate, working on his music, and writing a book about his transition through high school and college.

Poor Eliza
Poor Eliza engages audiences with her intimate vocal vibrato and dynamic songwriting. Inspired by the haunting melodies of songwriters like Damien Rice and Kathleen Edwards, Poor Eliza’s debut album The Wrong Thing (released under Bitch Trifecta) contains songs that range from spare solo acoustic to lush string arrangements and layered vocal harmonies. She uses her lyrics to challenge her sense of self, how she is perceived, and the disappointments surrounding identity. Performing in the Boston these past nine years has made her a familiar face in the ever growing singer/songwriting scene. She is currently working on her second album to be released in 2018.
