Janice Octavia Allen Featuring Hankus Netsky & Robert Nieske

Octavia - A native of Jamaica West indies, Janice “OCTAVIA” Allen began singing at a young age, she received informal ear training from her dad by simply listening to him practice church songs acappella while sitting on the from porch of their home in Jamaica at age eight.
Octavia has performed in the Boston area to the delight of many, and has also been blessed to travel to South Africa, Brazil, and Nicaragua to share her musical talents in spirited performances of Gospel, Blues & Jazz repertoire.
She also performs on a regular basis with her mentor Dr. Hankus Netsky, co-chair of New England Conservatory’s Contemporary Improvisation Department Octavia also holds a diploma of music in Jazz studies from the New England Conservatory of Music.
HANKUS NETSKY - A multi-instrumentalist, composer, and ethnomusicologist, HANKUS NETSKY is chair of Contemporary Improvisation at New England Conservatory and founder and director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. He has composed extensively for film theater and television, and has collaborated closely with Itzhak Perlman, Robin Williams, Joel Grey, Theodore Bikel, Linda J. Chase, Robert Pinsky, Eden MacAdam-Somer, and Robert Brustein. An artist at home in many musical styles, he has recorded on Sony, EMI, Rounder, Vanguard, Tzadik, Wild Garden, and Traditional Crossroads.
Bassist Bob Nieske has worked with Jimmy Giuffre, the Either/Orchestra, George Russell, and Stephane Grappelli. As bassist, composer, and bandleader, his projects include a suite for his jazz trio, and the Lydian String Quartet, documented on his critically acclaimed CD Simplicity.
