Goodwin

Goodwin
If you have seen them live, or listened to their recordings, you know that Goodwin is not an easy band to pin down. Indie Funk? Reggae Folk? Art Rock? Perhaps they can best be described as both raw and sophisticated. That is, the songs are unadorned with extraneous frills while offering myriad layers of complexity.

Comprised of Emily Campagna on vocals, Jason Fletcher on guitar, Yahuba Garica on percussion, Michael E Goodwin on vocals/guitar, Matt Lydon on drums, Anne Preis on Violin, Celia Sieckert on cello, and Ethan Stewart on bass, Goodwin has become an integral and inspired feature of the contemporary sonic landscape.

Experimentation is always the thing for this band. As such, Goodwin has welcomed a host of musicians to the stage and into the studio, notably Ben Lester (Bon Iver, S Carey) on pedal steel, Peter Maclean (Maceo Parker) on drums, Kathleen Parks (Twisted Pine) on fiddle, Cory Pesatruo on accordion, and Chris Sartori (Twisted Pine) on bass.

The band recorded their first album “The Hunt,” in June of 2023 at The Halo Studio in Windham, Maine with engineer and co-producer Jonathan Wyman. The final track “Tetons,” was reviewed by Global Tunes in a fashion that speaks to the ethos of Goodwin’s overall approach: “This track is built little by little until an explosive expressiveness is achieved without losing a sense of softness and sweetness.”

Following a slew of performances to promote their first album, the band began work on their second full length record “The Monarch and The Milkweed.” The first two singles, “Needs” and “New England Man,” were recorded in February 2024 at Mad Oak Studios in Boston with engineer and co-producer Benny Grotto. The bulk of the album was recorded once again at The Halo Studio with Jonathan Wyman in June of 2024, and upon release, was dubbed “an experimental masterpiece.”

On the heels of these two albums, Goodwin is proud to announce their third studio release: “Then Rain, Then Wind.” This EP finds the band collaborating with poets across time and space, in an effort to bring aged yet ever salient words to a new generation.

Fun fact Burren go-ers. Michael E Goodwin used to frequent the back room with Goodfoot in the late 90s and had the honor of christening the stage for their album release party in 1999. Here we go again!
